"One day I was asked, "If you could do anything, what would it be?" Without any hesitation I replied, "I would create a bohemian, exotic and exclusive accessories collection". My quick response probably stemmed from the fact that I was never able to find exactly what I was looking for in stores so I decided to apply my inherent passion for unique and fashionable accessories to create my own collection."
Exotic Brazil
Sharai tells, "It was my passion for beauty and the fact that Brazil is known as the new, hot and stylish place for all things "exotic" that drew me to Sao Paulo. I identified with Brazil's eclectic mix of bohemian, hippy, and chic (three points that characterize my own personal style) and my creative energy sparked.
Although I had the idea of creating an accessories line before my trip, it was only during my travels that I had a clear vision for the brand - a mix between exotic and precious! My creativity translated into bikinis, jewellery, and handbags but ultimately, I chose to focus on my handbags, probably a decision that unconsciously was stirred by my roots.
During my trip I discovered the Agate stone, a beautiful precious stone that can be dyed in many different colour variations. My love for python leather and the mix with this precious stone became the foundation of the handbag line for Sharai Accessories.
Italian craftsmanship
Unfortunately, the standard of quality I had in mind for the handbags could not be realized in Brazil and so my travels took me to Italy, a country known for its fine craftsmanship of leather goods. I learned a significant amount about the various types of leather and the process of making handbags.
Asia exclusive
My search in finding the exotic look and exclusive style that I wanted Sharai Accessories to represent, brought me to another part of the world, Bali. In terms of exclusivity and unique products, I find this part of South East Asia the best place for producing my collection. Whether you are looking for cow leathers or exotic leathers, both are an easy commodity to locate in Bali. I have been very fortunate that I found a workshop that fully understands my desire for the highest standards in quality and what the exclusive style of Sharai represents.
Proudly Dutch
My inspiration evolved whilst travelling around the world but the creativity for design comes from my Dutch heritage. The Dutch are known for their solid and creative design, together with the inspiration I developed during my travels, Sharai Accessories came to life. The mix of Eastern and Western cultures and the vast variety of colours and materials, has allowed for each piece that I make to have their own distinct look and fabulous finishing touches.
